Instructional Learning Certificate (ILC)

Noah Heller is lecturer on education and a core faculty member in the Teacher and Teacher Leadership (TTL) program. He focuses on developing effective approaches to practice-based teacher education, teacher leadership and learning, and mathematics pedagogy. Additional research interests include identity and belonging in math classrooms and teacher action research. Throughout his education career, Heller has worked with teacher teams and underrepresented young people to break down barriers of access to math, math-related fields, and future education opportunities. He is currently the faculty chair for Professional Education's Certificate in Instructional Leadership, an online program to facilitate capacity building among teacher leaders. Prior to joining HGSE, Heller headed the Master Teacher Program at Math for America in New York City, where he directed the development and expansion of a professional development program for hundreds of experienced STEM master teachers. His previous university experience includes teaching at Pratt Institute and Hunter College. Heller was the founding math teacher at the New York Harbor School, a public Career and Technical Education high school where he had the privilege of wearing many hats including working closely with teachers, families, and college admissions offices directing the college access process for first generation college-going students. He teaches courses in math methods, teacher research, equity and opportunity and foundations in teaching and learning.

Victor Pereira is lecturer on education and co-chair of the Teaching and Teaching Leadership program (TTL). He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology and Master of Arts in teaching from Boston College. Prior to coming to HGSE, Pereira taught, coached, mentored, and worked in many teacher-leadership roles for 14 years in Boston Public Schools. In 2012, Pereira was the Massachusetts Recipient of the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. Pereira has worked with the teacher preparation programs at HGSE in many different capacities since 2004 focused on developing new teachers and improving science teaching and learning in middle and high school classrooms. Pereira’s passion is helping science educators promote scientific literacy through authentic and relevant learning opportunities that prepare students to be informed and engaged citizens.

Rhonda Bondie is a lecturer on education teaching courses in the art of teaching, special education, and teacher leadership. Throughout her career, she has focused on ensuring all learners are valued, engaged, and stretched in inclusive classrooms. Bondie began teaching as an artist-in-residence and then spent over 20 years in urban public schools as both a special and general educator. Bondie is the faculty chair for Professional Education's online course Differentiated Instruction Made Practical. The course is based-on her book by the same name that describes a teacher-decision making framework for inclusive instructional practices, All Learners Learning Every Day (ALL-ED) collaboratively developed with Akane Zusho. The ALL-ED framework has been used in more than 30 countries all around the world to support teachers in planning instruction and teaching students with diverse learning needs. Bondie was a faculty member of the Project Zero Classroom for about 13 years. Currently, she directs HGSE’s Agile Teacher Lab examining how teaching expertise is developed through immersive online professional learning.
